Diary of Defeat

It seems to me that the West[1] is undergoing a transformational change the like of which it has never seen before.  It might compare with the Mughal conquests, Islam’s conquest of the Levant and North Africa, or the expansion of the USSR, with lower mortality.  It is a change wrought by ideologies[2], yet most Westerners seem insensitive to them, or acquiesce without demur.  In this journal I aim to act as witness to this unopposed revolution.

August 2024

A FRIEND EMAILED ME with a link to a tweet of a German Muslim stating that "when Muslims become the majority, we will take over Germany by force. German laws will be replaced by Sharia law.”  Well, that’s Islam’s goal so nothing new there.  Then my friend checked the Muslim population of Germany and had second thoughts, at 4% he considered “it's a bit premature for a revolution yet!”  Well, not really, as I replied:

It's better to describe Islamic conquest as incremental rather than revolutionary.  It's also better to consider the increase in Muslim population in the West in terms of proportional increase, rather than absolute.

Doctrinally, Muslims are expected to migrate in what's called hijrah.   Here's a definition.  Koran 4:100 - "Whoso migrateth for the cause of Allah will find much refuge and abundance in the earth, and whoso forsaketh his home, a fugitive unto Allah and His messenger, and death overtaketh him, his reward is then incumbent on Allah."  Muhammad said "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for."  Thus, migration redeems a Muslim's previous sins and increases his or her chances of entering paradise.  Martyrdom - dying while killing unbelievers in the name of Islam - guarantees this.

Nasty British jihadist Anjem Choudary was a former spokesman for al-Muhajiroun, which is Arabic for The Emigrants (that's the 'haj' part of Muhajiroun).   Known as ALM or the Islamic Thinkers Society, it is proscribed as a terrorist group, and Choudary’s role as director led him to be convicted in July 2024 and sentenced to life imprisonment.  That is, spending the rest of his life converting other prisoners, by force if necessary, to Islam.

Statistically, Muslim populations grow much faster than total populations, meaning that at some time in the distant future Muslims will outnumber non-Muslims in the West, which is precisely what happened in the Middle East, formerly majority Christian.  I only have accurate figures for NZ, which are based on censuses.  For example, the average annual growth rate from 1976 (Muslim population 1,341) to 2018 (Muslim population 57,726) is 9.1%.  NZ's non-Muslim population growth for the same period is 0.91% per annum, meaning the rate of Muslim population growth over 42 years is 10.3 times that of non-Muslims.  Extrapolate that!  It's fair to assume other Western countries will see similar rates.  I'll update these figures once the 2023 census 'religious affiliation' stats are available.

And it's not just migration that increases the Muslim population.  Conversion to Islam is extremely easy; leaving Islam incurs the death penalty - the deterrent effect of this should not be underestimated.  Conversion occurs for many reasons but the main ones are likely to be for purposes of marriage, or for an easier life in prison.  Other reasons include voluntary or spontaneous conversion, but I think an undeclared reason, acting as an explanation for the greater proportion of women converting, is that Islam is a very patriarchal way of life, in contrast to the increasingly feminised West.  It is also strongly rules-based (fatwas), rather than ethics-based, which suits people who think Western morality is too far out of kilter, or who feel the need for fixed rules to live by.

Demographically, the problem is a lot more serious.  One thing that Muslims have that no other religion, ideology or political system has is the ummah, the nationhood of Muslims.  This is extremely powerful, given that Muslims tend towards greater piety than Gloriavale, though do it in public.  We can see this in the way that UK Muslims, who tend to co-locate in electoral districts, had a powerful effect on this year's election, based on ant-Israel sentiment.  And that will get more significant as the proportion of Muslims increases.

There is something called 'the percentage rule', which takes two forms.  First is a paper by Harvard polsci prof Erica Chenoweth saying that it only takes 3.5% activists in a population to effect a change.   Second is one which states that as the proportion of Muslims in the population rises, certain effects become noticeable.  Violence increases and Islam's supremacism takes control.

Then there's the tipping point. A research paper shows that when 10 per cent of a population are strongly committed to a viewpoint, the view rapidly becomes the majority.

Premature, you ask?  When does one start to oppose the inevitable?  Or does one accept capitulation, as many in the West seem happy to do?

MY EARLIER COMMENT ABOUT THE MUSLIM VOTER BLOC was under-informed.  A Guardian article this week referred to a “Muslim Vote” website in Australia, ranking MPs in electorates with significant Muslim population on their attitudes to Israel, Palestine, and the South African genocide call in the ICJ.  The site is well constructed, and I would imagine it to be quite effective in a few electorates.  It was set up in April this year, modelled on a British site which expresses similar sentiments and was set up just two months after Hamas’ invasion that triggered it all.  Canada has had a site operational since 2015, coinciding with the year I consider to be the virtual fait accompli of Islam’s conquest of the West.  The worst – and barely considered – aspect of this is that Muslim activists are aiming to dictate Britain’s and Australia’s foreign policy.

There is an irony that Muslims are being encouraged to vote en bloc for candidates who favour Palestinian interests against Israel’s, but getting no push-back.  Meanwhile, the majority of Western Jews who give no support for Israel are excoriated just for being Jews.  To obtain peaceful coexistence on campuses Jews have to join Islam’s useful idiots in condemning Israel for demanding the return of Israeli citizens, peace from Palestinians, and the heads of Hamas.

GEONET SENT OUT A NEWS ITEM headed “Weaving Matauranga Maori and western science to strengthen our understanding of the Alpine Fault.”  Within the item there was useful information, such as it being the world’s “longest naturally forming straight line” which ruptures about every 300 years.  Then the article veers into mythical casuistry with a retelling of Maori folklore which adds nothing whatsoever to our understanding of earthquakes.  It’s as if the article is trying to make earthquakes comprehensible to children who still believe in Santa Claus.  It is infantilising the nation.  Why is an agency based on hard science and dedicated to increasing the precision of prediction messing with myths of a primitive culture?  This loss of rational focus is disturbing.  Who or what is driving this?  How does it improve understanding?  Who benefits?  If it continues along this line of irrationality – applicable only to New Zealand, after all – what will it lead to?  Given that spokespeople for scientists come up with this ‘goobillygok’, to use Willie Jackson’s word, are scientists themselves protesting against the corruption of rational epistemology, of science being ‘western’?  The worst part of this is the loss of cognisance of those promoting the imposition of belief on reason.  It is spreading like a cancer in the body of accumulated wisdom.

THE SAME DAY, RNZ reports that Oklahoma orders schools to teach the Bible in every classroom.  Its Department of Education states that "Every teacher, every classroom in the state will have a Bible in the classroom, and will be teaching from the Bible in the classroom to ensure that this historical understanding is there for every student in the state of Oklahoma."  I wonder if those who promote Matauranga Maori realise they’re operating on the same deluded plane as the oiks of Okie.

WHILE ‘LONE WOLF’ ATTACKS CONTINUE at a reduced level (or less-reported, or nipped in the bud), identifying them as Islamist requires some reading between the lines.  The recent Sydney attack on a bishop was called ‘religiously-motivated terrorist act’ but even though only Muslims carry out such things, one had to look for witnesses saying they heard Allahu akbar, or mention of their prophet.  A lynch mob formed outside, in a similar reaction to the Irish attack of November 2023, which may show an increasing trend.  Meanwhile, police had to defend the terrorist designation against criticism from a Muslim leader who said “Why are we so quick to jump to a definition of terrorism when religion is involved?” The conflict here was that the day before a man attacked women in a mall but was defined as mad, not a terrorist, and the bishop’s attacker was cited as allegedly having “known mental health issues.”  This was followed by the usual tawriya[3] of “Islam is the religion of love and peace” from a Muslim bystander.  We may not find out if the perp was primed to commit such an offence, as a useful idiot in service of Islam’s policy of retributive subsidiarity[4], or just someone who read the Koran and acted conscientiously on its demands.

No comment, of course, on the purpose that these apparently random attacks serve.  That is, as a reminder to non-Muslims that any criticism of Islam may be met with extreme violence.  Not every time, but enough to act as ‘intermittent reinforcement’, sufficient to control behaviour.  It’s a remarkably effective tool of conquest.

FIANZ CHAIRMAN advises Muslims to be careful following the attack on the Sydney bishop. The indication here is of retribution, an Islamic and Middle Eastern concept, not Christian or Western.  It is an example of occidentalism, the application of Middle Eastern principles to the West and the corollary of Edward Said’s Orientalism.

AUSTRALIAN POLICE are moderating their rhetoric in case people think that the world’s most violent religion is the world’s most violent religion.  A report in the Dominion Post tells us that seven members of “a religiously motivated violent extremist group” have been arrested.  Police “stressed they were targeting the youths based on alleged criminality, not background.”  This trend of irenicism might just prevent a ‘religiously motivated violent extremist’ from passing judgement on police spokespeople, and add to Westerners’ understanding of their role as dhimmis.

SUCH AN ACTION is unlikely in Britain, since the police there are well trained in submission and propitiation.  A Christian’s overheard comment to his priest resulted in a visit of two police officers and a senior NHS mental health worker confronting the 34-year-old at his home in what he described as an act of ‘Christianophobia’.  His exact words to the priest were: ‘As Christians what are we supposed to do?  Do we rise up and take a stand?  Or do we keep turning the other cheek, because if we do, we won’t have a cheek to turn?’  The officer’s explanation was that “It was just… obviously what we’ve been told that you may have a few concerns and things that are bothering you at the moment.” And “concerns about behaviour” which was no worse than an overheard conversation.  The Christian could well have said, “Forgive them, Lord, for they know not what they do.”

PAUL BUCHANAN IS EDUCATED, ERUDITE AND ARTICULATE, but like so many academics, however much he thinks he knows about Islam he does not understand it.  In a recent column he robustly declares that the attack on the Sydney bishop was a hate crime, and not terrorism because it lacked ulterior motive.  So I commented that from an Islamic perspective it was punishment for insulting Islam and that the result of this is the same effect as terrorism.  That is, the use of violence to bring attention to a political issue, that of insulting Islam, and to act as a warning against repeating it.  The list of similar victims is endless, not just the bishop, or Salman Rushdie, Asad Shah, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Hitoshi Igarashi, Sir David Arness and MP Mike Freer.  I commented as if I were addressing an intelligent and educated person and got a string of abuse in reply – ‘…obsessive hatred…nonsensical self-styled notion …trolling …bigotry …”  I learned my lesson - don’t treat people as if they were intelligent, treat them as if they were 14 years old.  I rewrote it with the same arguments but using Buchanan's own definitions of terrorism, and he wrote back, “Your response is a considered one although we shall have to disagree on your conclusion.”

THIS YEAR IS ELECTION YEAR for around half the world’s population.  At a local level, politicians must assess the issues affecting their electorates and campaign accordingly.  For the most part these are bread-and-butter issues, but demographic changes have brought about increasing references to the Muslim voter bloc.  Both Biden and Trump are taking care not to offend them.  Writer Benedict Spence commented elliptically on Spiked that ‘most people vote on their own situations. but we have to accept, having admitted a lot of people from parts of the world for whom Israel is an important thing and not challenged it, this is something increasing that the Labour Party is going to have to come to terms with at a local level in certain constituencies in the north and the Midlands.’  The Muslim constituency is a difficult one for politicians to track.  In the past, the Left has supported, and been supported by, immigrant communities, of whom the Islamic one coheres most tightly.  But ‘Muslims as immigrants’ is changing as more are born in the West, and more leave the ‘economically marginalised’ group as fully employed property owners.  There is a paradox, however, in that the Left also supports gay rights and family dissolution and these are anathema to pious Muslims.  Civil liberties and rights of free speech were once favoured by the Left but pressure from the Muslim bloc is curtailing them.  To some extent this will leave the Muslim bloc bereft of representation, and could, I predict, lead to the creation of Islamic parties in the West.

[1] Principally the Anglophone nations of Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, plus western Europe.  Its morality is founded upon Greco-Roman Judeo-Christian principles, aided greatly by civil rights developed and spread by Britain.

[2] For the purposes of this essay, I use ‘ideology’ defined as a utopian set of beliefs promoted by activists with a goal often initiated by a book or scripture (as with Mein Kampf, Silent Spring, Das Kapital, The Holy Koran, Gender Trouble, etc.), maintaining dynamic social movements in current affairs.

[3] Tawriya [tauriya]- the deception of intentionally creating a false impression.  It is a doctrine that allows lying in virtually all circumstances—including to fellow Muslims and by swearing to Allah—provided the liar is creative enough to articulate his deceit in a way that is true to him.  The authoritative Hans Wehr Arabic-English Dictionary defines tawriya as, "hiding, concealment; dissemblance, dissimulation, hypocrisy; equivocation, ambiguity, double-entendre, and allusion." Also, evasion, from On Taqiyya – Or on How Not to Lie by Qusthan Firdaus

[4] Subsidiarity is the principle that authority to act on any issue is given at the lowest level consistent with its resolution.  Islamic doctrine requires revenge to be taken in line with the law of retribution, lex talionis, and there is an obligation on Muslims to carry this out.  Islam requires every Muslim to enjoin right and forbid wrong, known in Arabic as hisbah, which is the enforcement of sharia and upholding community morals.  Scriptural support comes from Koran 3:110 and the sahih hadith (an-Nawawi 34) “Whoever amongst you sees an evil, he must change it with his hand. If he is not able to do so, then with his tongue. And if he is not able to do so, then with his heart, and that is the weakest form of faith.”
